The grounds of Château de la Croix de Chassenard

The grounds of Château de la Croix de ChassenardThe small commune of Chassenard, in the Allier region of France’s Auvergne-Rhône Alpes region, where the village Toue des Demoiselles is located, has a lovely place to take a stroll: the Château de la Croix. The château can’t be visited, as it’s now the commune’s town hall. However, the park is well worth a visit, with its many remarkable trees. A fitness trail has been set up in the park, providing plenty of exercise and fun for the whole family.

Access to the Château grounds is free in summer and winter.

The Briérette Sunday market in Digoin

When you’re on vacation, it’s a good time to take time out to visit the markets. And there’s one we particularly like, the market in the Briérette district of Digoin, which takes place every Sunday morning.

Fresh produce, gourmet foods, roast chicken, clothing, leather goods, bazaar – it’s a truly complete market, where you can enjoy a stroll with family or friends and find good local produce.

Taste the famous Burgundy snails

Digoin is the capital of snails cooked Burgundian-style, with butter and parsley. Almost every restaurant in town has this speciality on its menu.

Digoin celebrates this world-famous dish every August1st with the traditional Fête de l’Escargot. Over 3 days, you’ll find a funfair, a flea market, fireworks, dancing and, of course, snail tasting.

For well-cooked snails, we recommend our favourite address: le relai du canalou in Digoin
