Discovering Ailleville

Ailleville, just 3km from Bar-sur-Aube, is a small village that hides some great treasures. In 1814, the village was burnt down by the Prussians during Napoleon’s French campaign. The village was completely destroyed and its inhabitants decimated. Since 1815, the village has risen from the ashes, and even today, a handful of passionate locals continue to pamper their heritage to perpetuate its memory and enhance its value.

Today, Ailleville is a village with an architecture worth seeing, with a homogeneity rare in our French towns and villages. Ailleville is a fine example of traditional 19th-century Champagne architecture.

Canoe rental on the Aube river

Canoe hire in Bar-sur-Aube is available from the age of 7. All canoes are two-seater and can be booked by the hour, half-day or day, every day from April to September.

The Crystal Museum

It was in 1678 that the small town of Bayel, located 6km from the village of Champagne, became a major crystal production center with the creation of the Cristallerie Royale de Champagne de Bayel by a Venetian master glassmaker. Closed only since 2016, the know-how is perpetuated through an eco-museum. In addition to touring the rooms and showing videos, a glass-blowing demonstration workshop has been set up, to share with you this heritage so dear to the hearts of the people of Bayel.
