The history of the Toue Cabanée
The Toue Cabanée is a type of ferry, used as a fishing boat, or to transport passengers and goods, mainly on the Loire. They are traditionally flat-bottomed boats with a wide bow, with or without a cabin, and a mast to allow sailing.
Its name comes from the English “Tow”, meaning to pull, to tow. At the time, it was known as “Touer”, a technique used to move boats before the democratization of motorization. River boats were pulled by men and animals from the banks. This was called “touage”. And cabanée comes from the wooden hut placed on this barge.
The “Toues Cabanées” were used to navigate down river. As the reverse journey upriver was too difficult, the Toues Cabanées were usually completely dismantled once they reached their destination. The materials were then resold and recycled as building materials.
It’s this heritage that inspired us to revisit the Toue Cabanée, remaining as faithful as possible to the original, while adding modern comforts.
La Toue Cabanée, moored or at anchor

This is the classic version of the Toue Cabanée. This is the layout you’ll find mainly in our Toues Cabanées at Village Toue des Demoiselles in Burgundy and Village des Monédières in Corrèze.
In the Toue Cabanée, you’ll find a main room with a fully-equipped kitchenette and sitting/dining area, a separate toilet, a bedroom with a double bed and a bathroom with walk-in shower and basin. As for sleeping arrangements, in addition to the double bed in the bedroom, you’ll find 3 extra beds: a double bed with sofa bed and a single foldaway bed. Large picture windows offer exceptional views of the surrounding countryside.
What we love most about the Toue Cabanée is its large sundeck at the front of the boat, which can be shaded with a sail.
La Toue Cabanée Spa
For 2 persons
The layout of the Toue Cabanée Spa is much the same as that of the “original” Toue Cabanée. Inside, you’ll find a spacious living room with kitchenette, sitting area and dining area, a separate toilet, a double bedroom, and a bathroom with walk-in shower and basin. However, in this unusual accommodation on the water, you only have 2 beds in the bedroom.
The big difference lies outside, on the terrace of La Toue Cabanée, where you’ll find a private spa, just for you.
A shade sail will keep you out of sight.
The Toue Cabanée Spa is available at the Toue des demoiselles Village on the banks of the Loire in Burgundy.
La Toue Cabanée Tribu

It’s a slow novelty for 2022 : La Toue Cabanée Tribu offers a totally redesigned layout to accommodate families with children who go to bed early, or groups of friends who each need their own privacy.
In this boat, you’ll find a living room with kitchenette, sitting area (with sofa bed) and dining area, a shower room with walk-in shower and washbasin, a separate toilet, and 2 double bedrooms.
The large terrace at the front will certainly be your favorite place to get together and enjoy nature.
The Toue Cabanée Tribu is to be found in our unusual village in Burgundy: the Toue Village of the Domaine des Demoiselles.
